I have been a mother for the past 8
years, and today was the first time I have been turned away from a business for bringing a child with me. I brought my 8 month old daughter (in her carrier) for a quick trip to the salon, not for a 3 hour service, just a short visit and was informed by the manager of The Hair Shoppe in North Canton that children are not welcome owing to their "disruptive" nature and the fear that my 8 month old, who at this time was beaming smiles to all, would upset the other patrons. I have brought my daughter on previous visits and no one has ever said a word, except to comment on how cute she was or how quiet. They are also not opposed to children if the child is a customer. Obviously it's only those children coming along for free who could be obnoxious. She did offer to reschedule me for a later time when I had secured childcare. Um, really? Do you honestly think I would come back? I do understand that not everyone enjoys children, but I generally use discretion and avoid situations where I think my child's presence could be disruptive.
